Simferopol 79b93

Very often, the gusts of Crimea, who came to the peninsula on business purpose for a couple of days, do not know where to go and what to see during free hours.

Simferopol’s nicknames: Scythian Naples, Collector-city

From Simferopol (airport):

From Kerch (crossing): 220 км

Beaches:

1. The nearest beach from Simferopol is located in Nikolaevka town (40 minutes by car). The beach – sand and many-colored pebble. This is the beach, to which Simferopol’s citizens go themselves.   2. Golden sandy beaches of Evpatoria (an hour by car).
3. Pebble beaches of Alushta (an hour by car).

What  to do in Simferopol in the evening:

  • Find Pobeda public garden in the center of Simferopol, where there is a T-34 tank standing on the pedestal, this is the monument for the soldiers, who have fallen for the city’s liberation in April 1944. Go seeing Council of State’s building and the place where the actions of Crimean spring 2014 had started. Right next to this building you can find recently reconstructed The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, during the reconditioning of which, in 1891 young Maxim Gorki had worked for a couple of days.

  • Have a walk along the central Pushkina and Carl Marks streets, see officer’s house, where Vladimir Majakovskij used to perform.

  • Go over the seafront of Salgir river up to the biggest park in the city – Vorontsovski. There is a rosarium, on the territory of that park, which is even bigger than the rosarium of Nikitsky Botanical Garden, and there are also ornamental flowers’ expositions, beautiful alleys and prince Voroncov’s estate – small Vorontsov palace.

  • Join in the cultural city life – Simferopol is famous for its rich theater life. Interesting performances are held in the State academic music theatre and Russian dramatic Gorky’s theatre. Biannual exhibition of young Crimean artists is taking place in the Simferopol trade mart.

  • If there is a possibility, it is worth visiting the Tavrida’s central museum, the leading Crimean museum, which demonstrates the whole richness and variety of the Crimean peninsula’s history and nature. Pay attention on the working hours of the museum: till 16:00, Tuesday is a day off.
  • Devote your free time to the local enogastronomy’s study. There are Crimean-Tartar, Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, Karaite and Black Sea cuisine restaurants in the city.  If you finished all your business early, then you can go to the legendary Jewish restaurant «Joskin kot» or Crimean-Tartar restaurant «Dzheval» in Evpatoria.
  • A wide choice of Crimean wine, both well-known brands and – what is more interesting – exclusive author’s wine, produced in small amounts, is represented in specialized wine cellars «Banket» («Banquet») (Sevastopolskaja street) and «Vinograd»  «Grape» (Lenina street).

  • To buy unique Crimean souvenirs one must go to the «Carstvo aromatov» («Aroma kingdom») (Gurzuvskaja street). There essential oils and natural Crimean cosmetics can be bought.

If there is a free day, the editorial staff recommends:

  • If during your trip, you can have at least half a day free, then it is a great idea to spend this time in Evpatoria. One way road will take you only an hour. Simferopol airport is located on the evpatoria highway, so after the trip you can go straight to the plane. Within half of a day in Evpatoria, you can walk along the picturesque old streets, travel the route «Small Jerusalem», see ancient Karaite kenases, dervish magical dances, get acquainted with the Crimean tartar’s traditions in a cultural-ethnographical center «Odun-bazar kapusy», enjoy Crimean-tartar’s pilau, chebureks and a cup of coffee, made according to the old recipe.

  • If you would like to spend leisure time on the landscape, the perfect variant is to travel to the Red cave’s region (Kezil-Koba), where one can not only admire underground miracles, but also have a walk along the pictorial valley, buy souvenirs and take photos of the Crimean foothills. The road from Simferopol is less than an hour.

  • One more great idea for the rest from work is a trip to Bakhchysaray (40 minutes from Simferopol), where you can walk in the old town, buy unique souvenirs and hand-made works in the small market next to The Khan's Palace and join in an interesting excursion in the most known Khan’s Palace.

  • There are two recreation centers not far from Simferopol, where you can regain strength after the business trip even in one day. In eco-complex « Rybackaja derevnja» («Fishing village») one can give yourself a treat of fresh fish, catch fish yourself, visit Russian baths and relax on the lake coast. In recreation center «Grushevoe ozero» («Pear’s lake») you can fish and ride a horse along pictorial landscapes.

  • The most moderate, but still not less interesting, variant on «what to do in free half of a day», is to commit a miracle-trip by trolleybus to Alushta (and have a swim there). As it is known, the longest trolleybus line in Europe is located in Crimea – 38 kilometers in 1,5 hours, along the scenic places. The trip by the trolleybus №51 will be a nice beginning of getting acquainted with the peninsula. Almost every stop has its places of interest. For instance, in Lozovoe town, not far from the road, you can see a rare monument – Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoj  without his beard. That is the way, the writer used to look during the Crimean war. There is one more peculiar monument in Angara crossing – a mountain trolleybus, which, for 40 years of working, had transported more than 20 million passengers.
