Text

In the center of Alushta Professor's Corner is located a museum of the writer I.S. Shmelev. Its opening and consecration took place on 21 September 1993 and was timed to the 120th anniversary of the writer's birth. The museum is housed in a building, constructed in the early nineteenth century and belonged to the chemist V.N. Beketov, a brother of architect A.N. Beketov.

The museum introduces visitors to the life and work of the writer in pre-revolutionary years in Moscow, during the Civil War in Alushta, then in exile in France. The museum is a kind of scientific center for the study of the creative heritage of I.S. Shmelev and Russian literature abroad.

Since 1990 Crimean international Shmelwvsk reading and Shmelevsk Assembly are held, in which over the years took part activists of science, education and culture of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, France, USA, Canada, Finland, Poland, and Japan. By the materials of such meetings collections of scientific papers are published.

The museum of I.S. Shmelev is included in the pilgrimage tours to the holy places of the Crimea, as well as actively participating in the educational work of the educational program "Museum – school."

The main objects of display and exhibition are: furniture and artefacts (XIX - early XX century); original photographs, documents and letters of I.S. Shmelev from his archive; lifetime editions of the writer, including those from his personal library; icons (the end of XIX - early XX century); painting by artist M. Sapozhnikov (beg. XX century.)
