The Kanaka reserve is located on the south-east Crimean coast in favorable climatic zone, and occupies 160 hectares of republican importance. The name can be translated as “lodging for the night” or from Greek as “beloved”. The botanical wildlife preserve is hidden far from busy cities and roads, the nearest settlement is Rybachje in 5 km, Alushta and Sudak are in 40 km. There was created a small guesthouses village, including cinemas, bars, discoes and cafes on the reserve territory. There is the longest (2 km) and most comfortable beach for the family rest, it has a gentle sea entrance, sandy beach, with fine dark-gray pebble, which possesses healing properties (natural massage and reflexotherapy). Kanaka reserve attracts with its natural primeval, the locality outline, climate and gray volcanic healing pebble on the beach resemble the European Mediterranean, Croatia and Canary Islands in particular.

The sea there is rich in delicacy rapanas and molluscs, There is also big amount of various fishes and mussels. The rare and unusual Crimean souvenir can be found in slope erosions – milk-white quartz with rock crystals, which used to be called “The Crimean diamond”.

The main property of the Kanak reserve is the relic juniper grove, saturating the coast air with medical qualities. That air is good for respiratory, cardiovascular and nerve system of the visitors. In juniper and pistachio groves the trees reaching 700 years age, oaks, Jerusalem thorn and jessamin shrub can be found. The Kanak reserve got the status of the natural sanctuary in 1947.

The Janturu mountain protects the Kanak from the cold winds in the east, there flows Kanaka river, full-flowing only during spring floods. The river dried out in the XIX century with the Crimean pines felling, which used to grow on the mountain. Now, the pine forest is reconstructed, The Crimean pine is planted in even rows, creating the word “КРЫМ” (Crimea), which is seen from the next standing mountain and from plane. The other mountain slopes are planted with vineyards.

Eastwards from the beach, on the steep slopes, several natural mineral springs are found. The water is fragrant and has bitterish taste because of magnesium.
