Text

The lapidary exhibition is located in the open air in Duvanovskaja street in front of the Yevpatoriya museum of local lore’s entrance. There are exhibited archeological artefacts, which have been found during archeological researches on the north-west part of the Crimea.

There can be found anthropomorphous steles of the Bronze Age, the collection of Scythian tomb sculptures of the IV-III centuries BC, Polovtsian statues of the XI-XII centuries. There one can see round tower fragments dated by the middle of the IV century BC from the country agricultural estate, which used to belong to ancient Greeks – citizens of antique city Kerkinitid, the proto-city of Yevpatoriya.

Yevpatoriya museum of local lore possesses a huge collection of ancient Scythian sculptures, the rarest ones are exhibited in the museum halls. Scythians used to put these sculptures in barrows, where chiefs and martial leaders had been buried.

Polovtsian stone statues portrayed noble men-warriors and women, symbolizing ancestors' cult, these statues were erected in the open air on high prominent places, near which sanctuaries for animals’ sacrifice had been built. The rare Polovtsian sanctuary was found in 1930 in Yevpatoriya region (now Chernomorskij region), a statue from which visitors can see in the museum halls.
