Surely you've met smiling and joyful people, cheerfully walking with sticks in their hands. What do they do? The answer is very simple – these people are engaged in their own health!

Nordic Walking or Scandinavian or Finnish is a new trend in the world of a healthy lifestyle! The reasons of it gaining such popularity and what wonderful opportunities are awaiting fans of Nordic walking in the Crimea, on these questions answered Boris Vorontsov – the founder of the Russian club-school of Nordic walking and trekking "NORDiK", a club of active longevity "120", a zdravolog, an author of many programs on Nordic walking, the champion of Russia in Nordic walking in daily marathon.

Скандинавская ходьба в КрымуSabina: It seems that doing Nordic walking is very easy. Boris, is it true? And what benefits for the body do these lessons bring?

Boris: The intensity of the load during walking can be different. It depends on the pace of movement, knowing of walking terrain’s appliances. The main feature of Nordic walking is that it trains 90% of all body muscles, so that burns nearly a half times more energy than normal walking or running. Therefore, it is very effective in combating obesity.

Besides, Nordic walking classes have a positive effect on heart, develop respiratory system, improve posture, increase vitality. Especially effective are these exercises in a climatic resort, when positive therapeutic effect increases the healing climatic factors several times.

Sabina:
As it is known, exercises with poles have been used in physical therapy during rehabilitation after injuries long before, and Nordic walking can be used as therapeutic procedures ...

Boris: Of course! Nordic Walking is a great joint exercise, which involves almost all joints, including the spine. This improves the overall hemodynamics, increases cardiac output, normalizes microcirculation. Therefore, doing Nordic walking is recommended for people suffering from osteochondrosis, scoliosis, chronic pain of back, shoulders and neck.

Nordic walking also trains the sense of balance and coordination of movements, thereby activating brain activity, improves blood circulation and delivery of nutrients to the nerve cells.

There are special programs and techniques of Nordic walking, taking into account different needs of the body, but the main thing is an individual approach and optimal load. Therefore, having health problems it is required to start classes under the supervision of qualified and certified coach.

Sabina:
Are there any contra-indications?

Boris: Nordic walking, like any other medical treatment, is contraindicated during exacerbation of chronic diseases. Besides that, it has practically no contraindications and with the right approach and the exclusion of congestion is available to everyone, even to aged people.

Sabina: In order of Nordic walking to be effective, it should be done systematically and continuously, the same as fitness? Or a tour is enough, to recharge your health for the whole year?

Boris: Physical and emotional recovery of the organism comes from a single round and retains its positive effect for a long period.

Those, who want to continue the activity and keep fit, can by oneself, with the help of an experienced trainer, develop a program of physical activity for a month or a year.

Sabina: When the first results can be seen or felt?

Sabina:
When did the fashion for Nordic walking come to the Crimea, and how does it accustom here?

Boris: In September 2014 in Chernomorsky was held the first festival and daily super marathon of Nordic Walking. It was organized by representatives of the Russian club-school of northern (Nordic) walking and tracking "NORDiK" from Tyumen. In 2015, from May to October, were conducted trekking tours in the style of Nordic walking "Along the Golden Ring of Tarhankuta" – a joint project of the NP "Tyumen Center of healthy lifestyle" and the Crimean travel company "Tarhankut tour." After that, the branches of the club "NORDiK" and the club's active longevity "120" have been created in Chernomorsky.

Now we are planning to hold new festivals and Nordic Walking competition not only on inter-regional, but also on international level.

Sabina: Does that mean that the Crimea has good prospects for the development of Nordic walking?

Борис: Of course! This is a great advantage of the Crimea, which we actively use in the tours development.

Trekking tours "Golden Ring of Tarhankut" and other tours, developed in the style of Nordic walking, are full of monuments of ancient culture and history. There are places that are magnets for tourists because of its power, such as Cave City Bakla near Skalistoe town, cave monastery Shuldan near Sevastopol. Modern people like the idea that it is possible to be engaged in their health and at the same time discovering new and interesting. Crimea generously gives such an opportunity.

Sabina: Within 2 years of your work on Nordic walking promotion in the Crimea, you have probably discovered such corners of the peninsula, that you particularly liked. Tell us what places would you recommend to visit for fans of Nordic walking?

Boris: There are lots of such places! The first thing that comes to mind is, of course, the peninsula Tarhankut, with which it all started. Today it is the most environmentally friendly water area. It combines perfect sea and steppe climate, beautiful nature, scenic cliffs and huge sandy beaches.

For Nordic Walking there are also suitable resorts of Southern coast – their medical climate, parks and mountain trails. Also Bakhchisaray. I was impressed by the cave grottos, mountains, historical monuments, I think tourists will like it too. Feodosiya is a romance of Cimmerian trails. In general, the list can be very long.

Sabina: By the way, about the history monuments! Do you think we can say that the peculiar feature of the Nordic Walking in the Crimea is a rich historical and cultural color?

Boris: Of course! This is a great advantage of the Crimea, which we actively use in the tours development.

Sabina: What is needed to begin Nordic walking?

Boris: It does not require anything special. The main equipment are special Nordic walking poles. It is advisable to purchase high-quality original sticks in the club, where you can always order additional components, carry out maintenance, get expert’s advice. So I would advise to purchase the original poles for Nordic walking by ILUUM company as we are working with them.

Sabina: Where in the Crimea can a professional instructor be found and how are the classes held?

Boris: In Chernomorskoe village work professional instructors who have been trained at the club "NORDiK" and have received certificates. They may conduct a master class, individual and group lessons. In addition, the club " NORDiK " prepares instructors for health centers, tourist and recreation centers, municipal and private clubs of Nordic walking.

Sabina: Can one do Nordic walking individually?

Boris: It could be done individually, after undergoing qualified education and having guidelines.

Sabina: What advice can you give to those who wants to start Nordic walking individually?

Boris: If you have health problems or weak physical preparation, it is necessary to start with 2-3 times a week sesseion for 30-40 minutes at a moderate load, gradually increasing the frequency of the trips up to 4-5 times a week.

For recreational purposes more important is not speed or distance, but the duration of a walk. Be sure to carry out self-monitoring of health status –  to monitor pressure, heart rate and respiration. And at least the first 3-5 sessions should to be held under the guidance of a coach.

Sabina: What time of a year it is more favorable to practice Nordic walking in the Crimea, and why?

Boris: Any time of year and any weather is suitable for classes of Nordic walking. This contributes a better adaptation of the organism, hardening, improving of overall stamina, psychological stability, etc.

Together with Nordic walking it is useful to combine sea bathing, joint and breathing exercises, energetic practice.

But the most comfortable for the body climatic conditions in the Crimea are in autumn.

We thank Boris Vorontsov for the informative interview and Tatiana Gajlit,a  director of travel company "Tarhankut tour" for herr help in its organization. And all fans of Nordic walking –  Welcome to the Crimea! For bright emotions and new experiences!
